The pre-selection of the Dutch national team was announced on Friday. Matthijs de Ligt has been included in that selection and will probably also go to the World Cup despite his reserve role in Munich. Frank de Boer told the Viaplay table that he might make a different choice: Joël Veltman.
Frank de Boer thinks it’s strange because Veltman plays in the same system at Brighton and Hove Albion as the Dutch national team does. “If I had to choose between De Ligt or Veltman in the place where Timber now plays, he might be better. Because he already plays 30 games in that position.”
The pre-selection still has a lot of names but will be reduced to a selection of between 35 and 40 players. Louis van Gaal still has a few days to make his choices. According to De Boer, it is therefore a missed opportunity if Veltman is not involved.
