OH Leuven undergoes painful punishment at Eupen, where Bernd Storck saves his skin

quicksand. That is how we can describe the defense of OH Leuven against Eupen. Of all the goals that the Pandas have already scored this season, 28 percent come from the 4-2 pandoering that they sold to the people of Leuven. The skin of coach Bernd Storck has been saved for the time being. OHL remains behind with a poor four out of fifteen.

It was once again vintage Marc Brys at the Kehrweg. Keita would start for the first time since his serious foot injury, but in the end it was just De Norre, who was not on the race sheet, who started. Even without Keita it was OH Leuven that started the match sharpest. Maertens immediately came with a cross, Gonzalez just couldn’t put his foot against it. Eupen reacted, Prevljak kicked goalkeeper Cojocaru from the edge of the back line. Tamari came across with a crossed shot, goalie Moser boxed away.

After less than eight minutes, OHL took the lead. Kiyine aimed a corner at Gonzalez’s head. The Spaniard was not put in the way and headed hard against the nets. The home team did not give up. First she decorated a free kick, which Prevljak aimed high. Then Charles-Cook concluded a curled shot not far off.

Back and forth

The team from Leuven gave away a lot of space and that was soon punished with the equalizer. Mendyl simply let N’Dri cut himself and then Patris also let Charles-Cook walk. The latter made it 1-1. For long, Eupen failed to keep pace. Two minutes after the equalizer, Paeshuyse started a hand game. The ball went on the spot, Gonzalez landed his eighth goal of the season without hesitation. Five minutes before the break, Prevljak showed himself again, with a header that he aimed over. OHL seemed to be heading towards the dressing room with a lead, but that was not counted on a handball by Pletinckx. Eupen also got his penalty and Peeters kicked it through the center into the goal. 2-2.

Three penalty kicks

The home side came out of the dressing room furious. N’Dri advanced, but Cojocaru prevented him from scoring with a nice save. Then Bitumazala lunged, but his shot was blocked. In the third instance, it was Peeters who kicked over. Despite Eupen’s strong start, it was OHL that decorated a second penalty. Charles-Cook mowed down the spry Tamari and referee Van Driessche rightly pointed to the spot for a third time. Only this time the penalty did not result in a goal. Gonzalez aimed high. In the middle of the second half, OHL again came close to a third goal. Peeters made an own goal on a free kick by Kiyine, but his unfortunate deviation hit the crossbar. Twenty minutes before the end, Eupen appeared to be on his way to a second win this season after a goal from N’Dri, but the VAR intervened for offside. Such a goal would not have been undeserved, especially because the people of Leuven were abominably bad in defense.

The deserved 3-2 was not long in coming. Mendyl – he again – let Magnée run and he tapped the ball into the goal. In the end it all became even more painful for OHL, where the defense looked a lot like loose sand. Ricca was tricked by N’Dri, who put the 4-2 in the far corner.

Goals: 8′ Gonzalez 0-1 (Kiyine), 24′ Charles-Cook 1-1 (N’Dri), 27′ Gonzalez (penalty kick) 1-2, 45′ Peeters (penalty kick) 2-2, 75′ Magnée 3-2 (Kral), 86′ N’Dri 4-2
