| Novak Djokovic qualifies for semifinals in Tel Aviv

Novak Djokovic has made it to the semi-finals at the Tel Aviv tournament! The Serb defeated Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the quarterfinals in 2 sets: 7-6 (5) 6-3.

Djokovic won the Wimbledon grand slam tournament in July and then only played in the Laver Cup last week. This is a competition between the best tennis players in Europe and the best tennis players from the rest of the world.

Djokovic did not participate in the US Open because he has not been vaccinated against the corona virus. That was a requirement to participate. In Tel Aviv he first defeated Spaniard Pablo Andujar in 2 sets and then also Pospisil.

In the 1st set without breaks, the former number 1 in the world struck in the tiebreak. In the 2nd set, Djokovic ran out to 3-0, but the Canadian fought back. Pospisil couldn’t get over a 2nd break at 4-3.

The 35-year-old Djokovic, who has dropped to 7th place in the world ranking, will face the Russian Roman Safiullin in the semifinals.
