A climate activist set himself on fire at the Laver Cup at London’s O2 Arena. More specifically, near the net, he lit his arm, after presumably dousing it with a flammable substance. Whether that was really the intention is doubtful.
It happened during the match of Stefanos Tsitsipas against Diego Schwartzman (6-2 6-1).
The fire was soon extinguished, after which the man was removed from the track by security guards. Schwartman feared damage and had the organization look at the track. The track was cleaned with a wet cloth.
The activist was wearing a white T-shirt with a protest against the use of private planes. Many tennis players participating in the Laver Cup have traveled to London on private jets.
