CEO Peter Bossaert is proud at the official opening of the KBVB federation building: “Special moment for us”

“This is a special moment for us”, said Peter Bossaert, the CEO of the football association, proudly. “We had to become a more modern sports organization and develop a sports culture. As a federation, we wanted to bring everything together, in terms of sporting, support and governance. We couldn’t move the sport, so we came here.”

‘In 2000, under the chairmanship of Michel D’Hooghe and after Euro 2000, the available funds were spent to buy these sites in Tubize’, Bossaert continued. “At the time, the union wanted to set up a training center of international allure here. We have continued that work. I hope that worked out a bit. In a small country like ours you can move mountains. The Red Devils have proven that. And that’s what we wanted to do. We are very proud to have been able to achieve this.”

The Belgian Football Center in Tubize was inaugurated in 2016 by the various national teams. “The works are now almost completely finished,” says Bossaert. “There are still three areas under construction and the new grandstand is almost ready. This way we can organize international youth matches and tournaments here.”

Federal president: “Belgium wants to organize Final Four Nations League”

Paul Van den Bulck, the chairman of the Belgian Football Association (KBVB), was a satisfied man on Monday at the official opening of the new association building in Tubize. Van den Bulck wanted to underline that the union is catching up in the field of infrastructure. Belgium wants to organize the Final Four of the Nations League in June next year, if it qualifies next week. The candidacy for hosting the Women’s World Cup in 2027 is also a priority.

“A good infrastructure is very important”, explained Van den Bulck. “We have international ambition. The Belgian Football Association has been absent from the international scene for too long, despite the prestigious achievements of our national teams. We would rather organize the Women’s World Cup today than tomorrow. Together with the Netherlands and Germany, we are a candidate for the 2027 edition and we are looking forward to it.”

The association also wants to organize the Final Four of the Nations League, if the Red Devils can qualify next week. “It would be fantastic for our fans that this fantastic group of players can compete for a trophy in their own country,” said Van den Bulck. “We have an agreement with the city of Brussels for some minor adjustments to the King Baudouin Stadium. If we qualify, we are a great candidate for the organization.”

“The King Baudouin Stadium no longer meets modern comfort requirements,” acknowledged Van den Bulck. “That also applies to many club stadiums. Clubs encounter obstacles, including in the area of permits. We want to find a solution for this together with the authorities. Good infrastructure is also important for the image and economy of our country.”
