Strong Belgian Lions again step closer to World Cup after winning against Great Britain

With a great collective performance, the Belgian Lions opened the decisive World Cup qualifying round with a win against Great Britain. The dream of a first World Cup participation is getting a little closer. On Friday, the Lions leave for Athens, where Greece awaits with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo on Sunday.

In the first quarter, Belgium countered a 5-9 deficit with an 11-0 intermediate sprint. Signed Ismael Bako and Retin Obasohan and that gave them an 18-9 lead. In the beginning of the second slide, the Lions’ machine stalled. Great Britain responded with physical play and was back in the game with a 20-20 score against a static Belgian Lions. The Belgian Lions reacted alertly and via Pierre-Antoine Gillet and again Retin Obasohan it went to a 31-22 Belgian lead. Belgian ball losses resulted in a modest English remonte halfway through: 33-27.

The Belgian Lions came out of the dressing room strong and through star Obasohan, a dunking Ismael Bako and Jonathan Tabu, who was celebrated for the match because he is the new Belgian record international with 141 caps, it quickly went to a 46-32 score. In a physical battle, the Lions started the closing slide with a 55-43 lead. In the final quarter, the Belgian Lions confirmed with a magnificent collective performance. Jean-Marc Mwema scored, Alex Libert gave energy and Hans Vanwijn was also alert. Stars Retin Obasohan and Ismael Bako propelled the Belgian Lions further to the deserved win.
