Galatasaray officially announces Dries Mertens and reveals his salary: “2.9 million euros net”

The Turkish club Galatasaray has officially announced Red Devil Dries Mertens. Mertens was transfer-free and signs for one year with an option for an additional year. Remarkable is that Galatasaray discloses his wages and signing premium in the message, something that is mandatory in Turkey. “The player will earn 2.9 million euros net and receive a signing fee of 1.1 million euros,” the Turkish top club said.

Mertens arrived in Istanbul on Saturday along with Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira, so the official announcement of both transfers was only a matter of time. It has now come.

In Turkey, there is a salary cap system to prevent clubs from piling up debt and heading for bankruptcy. And so clubs have to disclose the wages of their players. This way we immediately know what Mertens earns at his new club. He will receive a signing bonus of 1.1 million euros and a net salary of 2.9 million euros per year.

Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira earns slightly less (2.75 million euros net), but signs a four-year contract. Galatasaray also had to pay him a transfer fee of 6 million euros.

Red Devil Dries Mertens played football at Napoli for nine seasons, but his expiring contract was not extended there. And so he opted for a new adventure at an even more fiery club. Mertens signed for 1+1 year, so one year with option.
