| Abdelhak Nouriplein in Amsterdam opened by Willem van Hanegem

In the Amsterdam district of Geuzenveld, a football square has been renamed A. Nouriplein. Abdelhak Nouri played football on the square for years and Feyenoord icon Willem van Hanegem opened the square last weekend.

Abdelhak Nouri, or ‘Appie’, regularly played football on the square in front of his parental home, where he was a great source of inspiration for the youth in the neighbourhood. Nouri has been struggling with permanent brain damage since July 8, 2017, after he collapsed due to heart rhythm disorders during the friendly match against Werder Bremen in Austria.
