Olympique Marseille recorded a 2-1 victory against PAOK Saloniki in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Conference League on Thursday. Despite the fact that supporters of both clubs made each other’s life miserable before and after the match.

Before the start, the fans of L’OM stormed a hotel with employees of PAOK, which eliminated AA Gent in the 1/8th finals, while Greek supporters wreaked havoc in the city center. During the match, Marseille’s Dimitri Payet was pelted as he tried to kick a corner, after which French hotheads fired fireworks into the visitors’ section.

That promises for next week’s return match in Greece. And as if the tensions weren’t high enough, PAOK coach Razvan Lucescu made a threat.

“Hopefully they will be received in Greece in the same way as our fans here,” said the Romanian. “Although the fans of Marseille should not travel there. I am deeply disappointed with what I have seen today. This does not fit in football, especially in this day and age. There are much more serious things going on in the world than we can imagine that this also happens during football. It’s disappointing and very bad for Marseille’s image.”
