European Championship basket 2025 in Latvia, Cyprus and Finland, Ukraine possibly fourth host country


FIBA Europe has decided to award EuroBasket 2025 to Latvia, Cyprus and Finland. The 42nd European Championship will take place in September 2025. An exact date will be announced later. The Belgian Lions, who will complete the European Championship in Georgia in 2022, are going for a sixth European Championship in a row.


Latvia will host the final stage of the competition, as well as one of the groups in the group stage. Cyprus and Finland will each host one group in the group stage. FIBA EuroBasket 2025 will take place in September of that year, the exact dates to be announced at a later stage.

EuroBasket for the men has been played every four years since 2017. The 2021 European Championship was moved to 2022 due to corona and will take place in Germany (Cologne/Berlin), the Czech Republic (Prague), Italy (Milan) and Georgia (Tbilisi).

The Belgian Lions will complete the group stage in the Georgian capital Tbilisi from September 1. In group A with Turkey, Georgia, Bulgaria, Spain and … Russia. However, FIBA ​​decided that after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia will be excluded from all international events/international matches. It is not yet known who will replace Russia in Belgium’s group. The final phase of the European Championship of 2022 will be contested in the German capital Berlin.

The Belgian Lions, who are currently completing the qualifications for the 2023 World Cup (Indonesia, Philippines, Japan), want to qualify for a sixth European Championship in a row in 2025.
