“My recovery is going well and I’ve had a good week of training, but I’ve decided to cancel those two tournaments anyway. I will return to clay, the surface on which I feel most comfortable,” said 28-year-old Thiem, who is struggling with a lingering wrist injury. The clay court season starts in a month.

Thiem last came into action in June of last year, at the Mallorca grass tournament. He was supposed to return to South America at the beginning of this year, but those plans also fell through.

In 2019 Thiem managed to win the Indian Wells tournament. He then defeated Roger Federer in the final.
