Striking: David Goffin forgets to register, but gets wildcard for ATP Montpellier

David Goffin (ATP 45) is not doing well. The resident of Liège forgot to register for the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier, France, where he is the defending champion. Tournament director Sébastien Grosjean fortunately throws him a life buoy in the form of a wild card.

Earlier this week, Goffin was immediately allowed to pack at the Australian Open. He lost in the first round 6-4, 6-3 and 6-0 to Briton Daniel Evans (ATP 24). “I was completely lost, with every stroke I doubted”, he reacted afterwards.

Goffin also seems lost on the court. In Melbourne, Sébastien Grosjean confirmed that Goffin has forgotten to register for his tournament. Goffin defeated Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the final in Montpellier last year, earning him his fifth ATP title.

Goffin eventually had to request a wildcard to make it to the main draw of the Open Sud de France. “And he will get it,” Grosjean said. The tournament will take place from January 31 to February 6.
