The Belgian duo lost 5-1 in doubles against the American-German tandem Desirae Krawczyk/Tatjana Maria. In the mixed doubles, Flipkens, alongside the American Christopher Eubanks, also went down 5-2.

Since the start of the tournament, New York Empire has always played with Kim Clijsters in singles, but on Tuesday they opted for Flipkens. She also lost 5-4 to Tatjana Maria in her third game of the day.

New York Empire is last in the standings with two wins and seven losses. The lead is for the Springfield Lasers (6 wins and two losses), for the Orange County Breakers (6 wins and three losses). Clijsters and Flipkens still have three games to go with New York Empire. A place in the final, reserved for the top 2, has become unattainable.

The World Team Tennis will take place on the tennis courts of Indian Wells in the United States and will run until Sunday.
