Andy Murray surprises first seed Jannik Sinner at ATP Stockholm

Andy Murray secured a place in the quarterfinals at the ATP tournament in Stockholm (635,750 euros) at the expense of Jannik Sinner on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Scots defeated the fourteen years younger Italian with 7-6 (7/4) and 6-3.

Murray is currently the world’s number 143, Sinner is the world’s number ten and was the first seed on the hard court in the Swedish capital.

“This may be the best win of the season. I want to climb the ranking again and achieve good results. I’ve already lost a lot this season, but it’s starting to look like something more and more,” Murray said afterwards.

For three-time grand slam winner Murray, it is only his second quarterfinal place on the ATP Tour of the season. In September he reached the last eight in Metz.

In the quarterfinals Murray will meet American Tommy Paul (ATP-52), who eliminated his compatriot Taylor Fritz (ATP-23) (6-4, 6-4).
