Muguruza defeated Tunisian Ons Jabeur (WTA 16) in three sets in the final on Sunday: 3-6, 6-3 and 6-0. The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes. Both finalists benefited from a forfeit on Saturday and the abandonment of their opponents in the semi-finals. Muguruza, the second seed, did not have to fight the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (WTA 41), who was absent before the start of the semi-finals. Jabeur looked Kazakh Elena Rybakina (WTA 17) in the eye. The Tunisian won the first set 6-4 and led 3-2 in the second, when Rybakina stopped the fight.
Muguruza, 27, now has nine WTA titles to her name, one of which she won in Dubai earlier this year. 27-year-old Jabeur was aiming for her second WTA title, after her triumph this year in Birmingham.
