Greet Minnen (WTA 78) has qualified for the second round (eighth finals) at the WTA tournament in Luxembourg on Tuesday. The tournament is already over for Alison Van Uytvanck.
The 24-year-old Minnen defeated the Spanish Nuria Parrizas Diaz (WTA 88) in the first round in three hard-fought sets: 7-6, 6-7 and 7-6. The party lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes. In the second round, the Chinese Shuai Zhang (WTA 49) or the Czech Marie Bouzkova (WTA 84) awaits.
Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 57) was eliminated in the first round earlier on Tuesday. She lost in straight sets to the Czech fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova (WTA 35). It became 6-2 and 6-3 after an hour and thirteen minutes of game. Elise Mertens (WTA 16) is the second seed free in the sixteenth finals. She opens against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (WTA 111).
Zimmermann pushes through in doubles
Kimberley Zimmermann has qualified for the second round (quarter-finals) of the doubles. The 25-year-old Zimmermann defeated in the first round with the New Zealand Erin Routliffe the Belarusian Lidziya Marozava and the Romanian Andreea Mitu, the fourth seed, in two sets: 6-4 and 7-5. The match lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes. Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri and Russian Varvara Gracheva await in the quarterfinals.
Minnen and Van Uytvanck are also still in the doubles as a duo. They open against Australian Astra Sharma and Dutch Rosalie van der Hoek.
