Michael van Gerwen without phenomenal throwing to the last eight at World Matchplay

Michael van Gerwen still has a chance of winning the World Matchplay. In the 2nd round, he knocked out Ian White, who has never won a Major game against the Dutchman. Van Gerwen didn’t throw big, but he managed to win fairly easily: 11-8.

Van Gerwen will especially be disappointed with the final part of the match. The Dutchman was leading 10-6 and the game seemed decided, but due to many missed doubles, White fought his way back into the game. In the end, Van Gerwen won the race in the 19th leg with a wonderful 121 finish.

To Asp
Van Gerwen’s game was more consistent than against Damon Heta, whom he got to his knees on Monday. Still, it went downhill for the Dutchman in the end. But hey, it’s done, of course. Nathan Aspinall awaits in the next round, who dealt with Gary Anderson earlier in the evening.
