Nick Kyrgios doesn’t feel like playing without supporters and cancels the Olympics

Nick Kyrgios heeft geen zin in matchen zonder supporters en zegt af voor Olympische Spelen

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has no desire to play in front of empty stands at the Olympics. The 26-year-old Kyrgios, number 60 in the world, therefore decided to unsubscribe from the global sporting event. “The thought of playing in empty stadiums doesn’t make me feel good,” the Australian wrote on his social media.

Kyrgios made his comeback at Wimbledon last week after being sidelined for months. The tennis player did not play anymore after the Australian Open in February. Kyrgios decided not to play tennis for a while because of the corona vicissitudes. At Wimbledon he reached the third round, but Kyrgios had to retire injured against the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime.

The winner of six ATP titles belonged to the Australian squad of eleven tennis players for the Games. The Japanese decided on Thursday not to allow an audience at all at the sports competitions in Tokyo, due to concerns about the corona virus.
