Dominic Thiem still doubts whether he can defend his title at the US Open. The last grand slam tournament of the year starts in two months, on Monday, August 30.
“Getting to the US Open will be very, very difficult,” said 27-year-old Thiem in front of Sky Sports’ camera. “I can’t guarantee anything, but I’m going to work hard. Even before I took the title in New York it was my favorite tournament. It is my wish to return there.”
The number 5 in the world withdrew from Wimbledon due to a wrist injury and will not make his appearance at the Olympics either. At the end of last year, Thiem was too strong for Alexander Zverev in the final of the US Open in five sets, who gave up a 2-0 lead in sets.
