Björn Kuipers has been appointed by UEFA for the quarterfinals between the Czech Republic and Denmark on Saturday evening. The Dutch referee directly benefits from the elimination of Orange in the 8th finals and is an important candidate for the whistle of the European Championship final.
Kuipers is helped in Baku by his regular assistants Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra. Pol van Boekel is the VAR. Kuipers whistled Denmark earlier this European Championship, in the group match against Belgium. Kuipers was also the referee in the group match between Slovakia and Spain.
UEFA appointed Felix Brych as the arbitrator for the Ukraine-England game. Like Kuipers at the Netherlands, Brych would not have been able to whistle this match if Germany had not been eliminated.
