Nations League volleyball: United States women extend their title after new win against Brazil

Nations League volleybal: vrouwen Verenigde Staten verlengen hun titel na nieuwe winst tegen Brazilië

The United States won the Nations League in women’s volleyball for the third time in as many editions on Friday. In a reissue of the 2019 final, the American women defeated Brazil 1-3 (28-26, 23-25, 23-25, 21-25) in Italy’s Rimini. Last year, the Nations League was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

In the consolation final, Turkey beat Japan 0-3 on Friday (19-25, 16-25, 17-25). Japan had lost 3-1 to Brazil in the semifinals, Turkey 3-0 to the US.

With eight wins, including six 3-2, and seven losses, the Yellow Tigers finished in ninth place after the regular phase. The top four after the group stage advanced to the final round.

The Belgian women are one of the ‘challenger teams’ in the Nations League, just like Poland, Canada and the Dominican Republic. They are therefore not guaranteed to participate. But in this edition there is exceptionally no relegation, so the Tigers will certainly be there in 2022. In 2018, Belgium finished thirteenth in the first edition, a year later they missed the final round in seventh, which was then finished with six. (belga)
