HSV is desperate. Horst Hrubesch still has to guide HSV to the Bundesliga. The 70-year-old club icon is the surprising successor to trainer Daniel Thioune, who has been fired because of the disappointing results. The former striker, head of training in Hamburg, will be sitting on the couch until the end of the season.
There is great panic at HSV, which relegated for the first time in history in 2018. For the 3rd season in a row, the Hamburgers seem to be able to forget a return to the highest level. And that while the German superpower, who won the European Cup 1 with Hrubesch in the striker in 1983, was at the top of the 2. Bundesliga until the 23rd match day.
Another trainer fired
The free fall of the club of the Dutch defender Rick van Drongelen has now cost trainer Thioune the head. Earlier, trainers Dieter Hecking, Hannes Wolf and Christian Titz were already killed in their failed attempt to promote with HSV. With 3 rounds to go, Hrubesch now has to perform a miracle.
Hrubesch faces a very tough task. HSV is still in 3rd place – a place that at the end of the stage is good for promotion / relegation duels with the number 16 from the Bundesliga, but feels the hot breath of Holstein Kiel in the neck. The upstairs neighbor of the Hamburgers has 2 points less, but played 3 (!) Games less.
Direct promotion seems hopeless anyway.
Stand at the head:
1. Vfl Bochum 31-60
2. Greuther Fuerth 31-57
3. HSV 31-52
4th Holstein Kiel 28-50
5. Fortuna Düsseldorf 30-49
