19 years and 78 days and already in the NBA. Alexei Pokusevski impressed against the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. With that, the Serbian even makes history, he is now the youngest player in the NBA to score more than 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 three-pointers.
Those numbers come pretty much out of nowhere, as Pokusevski scores an average of just 4.9 points per game for OKC. It was also only the third time that the Serbian was allowed to start in his NBA career.
At the Oklahoma City Thunder they are of course very satisfied with their rookie. “A performance like this will give him a lot of confidence,” said coach Mark Daigneault. “It will go less anyway, but then he can always think back to this match.”
Pokusevski is already happy in Oklahoma. After his strong performance against Memphis, the Serb had only good things to say about his integration into the team. “Everyone believes in me and I believe in them, it’s great to play with such a fantastic group,” said Pokusevski.
Oklahoma City Thunder is the perfect team for a young player just entering the NBA. This year is one rebuildyear for the OKC, in which they test which young talent fits where. So there is a lot of room to experiment and Pokusevski is now also reaping the benefits.
