Roeselare won 3-0 (22-25, 21-25, 22-25 after 1 hour and 22 minutes) against the Italian top club Modena on Thursday evening on the sixth and also the last match day in group D of the Champions League men’s volley. With 23 points, Mathijs Desmet was the match winner for the West Flemish.
For Roeselare it was the second victory in a row in this group stage, on Wednesday they already won 3-1 against the Russian Kuzbass Kemerovo. However, these are victories for the statistics, because Roeselare had all lost its first four group matches, which meant that they had no chance to advance for some time. Only the five group winners and the best three runners-up qualify for the quarter-finals. With seven points they finish in third place. Modena is currently in the lead with twelve points, but Warsaw follows with one point less and has one game less on the counter.
With Lindemans Aalst, a second Belgian team was active in the Champions League. The Onions lost their six group matches in December and January.
